Michelle Obama challenges Ellen DeGeneres to #GimmeFive dance-off
It’s the Michelle Obama vs. Ellen DeGeneres dance-off!
The First Lady of the United States made her fourth appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” with a segment that will air on Monday and shows her breaking it down with the daytime host in honor of the fifth anniversary of the Let’s Move campaign against childhood obesity.
Obama and her team recently issued the #GimmeFive challenge asking people to share five things they’re doing to stay active.
“Beyonce gave me five, and Ryan Seacrest and Nick Jonas and even the astronauts on the space shuttle, the international space shuttle, got involved,” Obama said in a clip from the show, posted on YouTube on Friday. And, yes, she meant the International Space Station.
The 51-year-old also announced during the show that she and dancers from Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” All Stars would perform the routine live during the White House Easter Egg Roll on April 6.
Appealing to DeGeneres’ dancing sensibilities, she challenged the host to participate in a GimmeFive dance-off to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk.” The women previously went toe-to-toe in a push-up competition in 2012.
“I have actually challenged this woman right here to learn the GimmeFive dance. And I hear you’ve sort of been practicing,” Obama said.
“I’ve been practicing somewhat. I’m very busy — very, very busy, and I’m not really good at choreography. I’m more of a freestyle kind of street dancer,” DeGeneres deadpanned. “I have tried to learn the dance if that’s your challenge.”
