Hoy and UCLA to Present First Public Screenings of Renowned “La Bestia” Documentary in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, October 10, 2011 — Hoy, Los AngelesTimes Media Group's Spanish- language newspaper, todayannounces it will collaborate with the UCLA Downtown Labor Center and the UCLA Center for Mexican Studies to debut "LaBestia" (The Beast), a film which documents the harrowing risksfaced by a group of Central American migrants determined to find abetter life in America. Immediately following both screenings, tobe held October 11th and 12th, Hoy and UCLA have arranged for PedroUltreras, "La Bestia" director, writer and producer, and FatherAlejandro Solalinde Guerra, a Catholic priest and leading activistfor the rights of Central American migrants in Mexico, to come toSouthern California to participate in panel discussions focused onthe issues the film raises.

The documentary is in Spanish with English subtitles and will beshown in its entirety. Hoy Editor Reynaldo Mena will moderate theOctober 11th panel and participating in each discussion will beUltreras, who has also received three Emmy® nominations as aSpanish-language news reporter, and Father Solalinde Guerra, whohails from Ixtepec, Mexico, among others.
