Beer and wine to be sold at Disney World restaurant
Cheers, Mickey.
For the first time in its 41-year history, the Magic Kingdom will serve beer and wine daily to guests at a new restaurant in the Orlando Park.
A Disney executive told the Orlando Sentinel Thursday that the sales will be restricted to dinnertime hours and only at the new Be Our Guest restaurant, which opens in November as part of the Fantasyland expansion.
The park is easing its long-held no-alcohol policy in response to feedback from guests who said they wanted the option of beer and wine with their meals, said Maribeth Bisienere, vice president of food and beverage for Walt Disney Parks.
The restaurant, based on Disney’s animated “Beauty and the Beast” film, will serve French cuisine.
“You cannot walk into a French restaurant and not get a glass of wine or beer,” Bisienere said. “It made more sense to do it than not to do it.”
Alcohol has been served at catered events at the Magic Kingdom for years but not at restaurants in the park. The expansion is expected to open in December but Be Our Guest will preview earlier.
Other Disney World parks, including Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim sell alcohol in their restaurants.
