Blake Griffin pays $9 million for new home in Pacific Palisades

Blake Griffin is moving up and down the court in playoff action as the L.A. Clippers’ power forward, but earlier in the season he was making another sort of move: buying a newly built home in Pacific Palisades for $9 million.

The Cape Cod-inspired three-story house has 9,100 square feet of living space — just under the size of two NBA courts.

Inside the front door is a 24-foot-tall foyer (clearly enough height to park a 10-foot-high basketball hoop), a curved floating-style staircase and an eye-catching chandelier.

Espresso-toned wood floors and details set off the interiors. Coffered ceilings and doors that disappear to open the home to the outdoors are among a roster of amenities.

The kitchen island has enough seats for the Clippers’ starting lineup. The home theater is walled in floor-to-ceiling burgundy suede panels and includes a 130-inch screen and stadium seating.

There’s a gym, three fireplaces, six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms. The master bathroom and closet are mammoth.

Griffin, 25, began his NBA career in 2009 after being drafted first overall by the Clippers but missed the entire 2009-10 season because of a knee injury. His career took off the following season, when he received rookie of the year honors. Griffin has made the NBA All-Star team four times and is under a five-year, $95-million contract.

Anthony Marguleas of Amalfi Estates was the listing agent. David Offer of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices and Chase Campen of Keller Williams represented Griffin.

L.A. mayor tests market

L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti and his wife, Amy Wakeland, put the home they own in Silver Lake up for a one-year lease at $8,500 a month and then took the place off the open market in less than two weeks.

A withdrawal from the Multiple Listing Service could mean that they had a change of heart, decided to strike an off-market deal, or they found a tenant but want to keep the lease price out of the public eye.

Built in 2010, the boxy contemporary features an open living room, dining room, media room, office/gym, six bedrooms and five bathrooms in 4,000 square feet of living space. The top-level master suite has views of the reservoir.

Concrete counters and a walk-in pantry are among amenities in the sleek kitchen. There are multiple decks.

How fortuitous that the street just got a fresh coat of slurry.

The couple bought the hillside property soon after it was built for $1.425 million, public records show.

They had been living in the Silver Lake house, according to Times reports, before moving to Getty House, the official mayoral residence. That 8,076-square-foot English Tudor-style mansion is in Windsor Square.

Garcetti, 43, took office last summer, becoming L.A.’s 42nd mayor.

Jacqueline Tager of Sotheby’s International Realty was the listing agent.

Palisades home finds its price

Cuba Gooding Jr. has sold his house in Pacific Palisades for $9.828 million. Yes, yes, someone showed him the money, to borrow his line from “Jerry Maguire.”

The nearly one acre of grounds is set up for family fun. A sunken trampoline — think user safety — sits in the lawn. There’s a swimming pool, and the sports court can double as a lighted roller hockey rink or a basketball court.

The contemporary English-style two-story house features French doors, five fireplaces, beamed ceilings, a media room, seven bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, a wine cellar and upstairs and downstairs laundry rooms — another user-friendly idea. The guest suite is detached, and part of the six-car garage was set up as a gym.

Gooding, 46, was in the 2013 films “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” “Absolute Deception,” “Life of a King” and “Machete Kills.” He won an Academy Award for his supporting role in “Jerry Maguire” (1996). Look for him this year in “Carry Me Home.”

Positioned for cherry picking

Wayne Gretzky, the ice hockey legend, has an estate for sale in Westlake Village at $10.5 million.

Set in a gated community, the 8,711-square-foot house, built in 2006, is entered through a courtyard with fountain. Double doors open to spacious rooms with vaulted and beamed ceilings, elaborate crown molding, built-ins, several fireplaces, five bedrooms and six bathrooms.

The acre site includes a dining and barbecue center and a swimming pool with a spa. A wall in the gym opens to face the swimming pool area.

Gretzky, 53, played in the National Hockey League for two decades before turning to coaching. The former Los Angeles King and Hockey Hall of Famer earned the nickname “The Great One” on his way to becoming the leading point scorer in NHL history.

He bought the site in 2000 for $2.76 million.

Nicole Van Parys of Engel & Voelkers is the listing agent.

Elvis leased desert digs

A Midcentury Modern home in Palm Springs that was once leased to the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll” Elvis Presley is up for sale at $9.5 million.

Billed as his “honeymoon retreat,” the 1960 house is notable for its unusual design. The residence consists of four circle-shaped living spaces on three levels. Curved walls of stone, a round kitchen island and a circular fireplace in the center of the living room echo the structure’s contours. Expanses of glass take in views of the Santa Rosa Mountains and Coachella Valley.

Retaining its period ambience, the five-bedroom, five-bathroom home has about 5,500 square feet of living area. The 1.25 acres of grounds contain a swimming pool, a tennis court and a fruit orchard.

The TV movies “Elvis and Me” (1988) and “Elvis by the Presleys” (2005) were filmed at the house.

The King, who died in 1977 at 42, leased the home in 1966 for $21,000.

Josh Altman and Matthew Altman of Hilton & Hyland, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, are the listing agents.

Moving onto a better life?

James Van Der Beek of “Dawson’s Creek” fame has sold a house in Valley Village for $1.155 million.

The 3,017-square-foot house, built in 1936, features a great room with vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, a bonus room and an open kitchen with bar seating. There are four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

Van Der Beek, 37, was in “Don’t Trust the B-- in Apartment 23” (2012-13) and stars in the new series “Friends With Better Lives.”

He paid $1.26 million for the house in 2005 and had been leasing it out for nearly $5,000 a month, according to the MLS. The property was listed at $1.155 million.

Kofi Natei Nartey and Craig Knizek of the Agency were the listing agents. Tom Otero of Rodeo Realty represented the buyer.
