Anne Hathaway sings rap songs Broadway-style with Jimmy Fallon

Anne Hathaway has yet to make good on her oft-professed desire to perform in a Broadway musical. Her Oscar-winning turn as Fantine in the 2012 movie version of “Les Miserables” showed that she has the singing chops. And if we need more proof, the actress appeared on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” on Tuesday to remind us that she can belt it out as good as Broadway’s best.

Hathaway, sporting close-cropped hair and a black pant-suit number, was accompanied on the piano by host Jimmy Fallon in a series of rap and hip-hop songs performed in a humorously over-the-top Broadway style. The line-up included a performance of Kendrick Lamar’s “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe,” during which Hathaway mounted the piano, Michelle Pfeiffer-style from “The Fabulous Baker Boys.”

The song list also included Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice,” with bleeped-out profanity; and 50 Cent’s “In Da Club,” also with bleeped-out profanity.

Hathaway has flaunted her singing voice at the Oscars, when she performed a duet with Hugh Jackman in 2009. The actress, who got her start in regional theater in New Jersey, has long expressed a desire to perform in a Broadway musical production, though nothing has materialized yet.
