Brad Pitt’s New Orleans project unveils Frank Gehry house

Brad Pitt enlisted architect Frank Gehry as one of the designers for his Make It Right Foundation, an initiative to build new homes in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward following the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. This weekend, the foundation released photographs of Gehry’s contribution to the project.

Gehry is one of 21 architects who are contributing their talent to Pitt’s project. Among the other architects are a few prominent L.A. names -- Hitoshi Abe, Thom Mayne and Pugh + Scarpa.

The foundation is aiming to build 150 houses for people affected by the hurricane. Buyers are expected to pay as much as they can for a home, according to the foundation’s website. It said the average price for a single-family house is $150,000, and $200,000 for a duplex.

Gehry designed a duplex that features four bedrooms and three bathrooms. It also has a rooftop terrace and covered porch areas.

But Gehry didn’t choose the pink-and-lilac exterior paint. The owners chose the color as well as the design for certain fixtures, according to the foundation.

“I wanted to make a house that I would like to live in and one that responded to the history, vernacular and climate of New Orleans,” Gehry said in a foundation press release.
