The Oscar-winning songwriters of the Disney animated movie “Frozen” will debut a new stage musical at the La Jolla Playhouse next season. “Up Here,” with songs by husband-and-wife team Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, is scheduled to open sometime in the 2015-16 season, with an exact date to be announced later.

“Up Here,” which will be directed by Alex Timbers, is a romantic comedy musical about an awkward man with an overactive subconscious life. The show is being presented by special arrangement with Scott Sanders Theatrical Productions. Sanders has produced a number of Broadway shows, including “The Color Purple” and the 2010 “The Pee-Wee Herman Show.”

Robert Lopez has won Tony Awards for his songwriting work on “The Book of Mormon” and “Avenue Q.” This year, he and Anderson-Lopez shared the Academy Award for writing the song “Let It Go” from “Frozen.”

The couple previously collaborated with Disney on the live “Finding Nemo” show at the Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Fla., and the 2011 animated feature “Winnie the Pooh.”

The La Jolla Playhouse will begin its new 2014-15 season with a workshop production of “Chasing the Song” from the songwriters of “Memphis,” and a production of the Chinese drama “The Orphan of Zhao.”
