Conductor Gustavo Dudamel is expected to lend his musical talent to a new movie about the life of Simón Bolívar, which will star Edgar Ramirez as the South American political and military figure. The movie, titled “Libertador,” is being directed by Alberto Arvelo Mendoza.

Dudamel’s involvement in the movie is currently under discussion, according to the conductor’s representative in London. On Wednesday, the Hollywood Reporter ran a story online stating that Dudamel would compose the score for the movie.

But Dudamel’s representative said Thursday that they are still in discussions about the extent of Dudamel’s involvement and that an agreement has not been reached yet.

The representative said that composing the score for “Libertador” is one of the possible ideas Dudamel is considering. He said that Dudamel has been spending time in the past months in Los Angeles at the piano.

Dudamel, who is the music director of the L.A. Philharmonic, has worked with the movie’s director before on the 2010 documentary “Dudamel: Let the Children Play,” which was about the Venezuelan music program El Sistema.

Dudamel has also worked with Ramirez in the recent past. The Venezuelan actor, who starred in “Carlos,” appeared as a narrator in an L.A. Philharmonic concert that was conducted by Dudamel at Walt Disney Concert Hall in 2010.

This month, Dudamel is in Britain with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela as part of the London 2012 Festival, the large-scale cultural celebration running parallel to the Olympic Games.
