Matthew McConaughey to receive American Cinematheque award
The McConaissance continues: Matthew McConaughey will receive the 28th American Cinematheque award, the organization announced Tuesday.
The Oscar-winning actor will be honored Oct. 21 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, during the Cinematheque’s annual benefit gala. The award presentation will include in-person tributes from some of McConaughey’s colleagues.
“Matthew McConaughey is the epitome of what a Hollywood star should be — an adventurous, joyous and ever-growing talent combined with matinee-idol looks and an unshakable sense of who he is and what he stands for,” Cinematheque chairman Rick Nicita said in a statement.
McConaughey, 44, has pulled off a dramatic career reinvention of late, winning an Academy Award (and just about every other acting honor) for his lead performance in the AIDS drama “Dallas Buyers Club” this last awards season and following that up with a lead turn opposite Woody Harrelson on the acclaimed HBO series “True Detective.”
He will next star in Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi drama “Interstellar,” due in theaters Nov. 14.
Previous Cinematheque honorees include Martin Scorsese, Nicole Kidman, Denzel Washington and Jerry Bruckheimer.
