Amanda Bynes pleads no contest to ‘wet reckless’ in DUI case

Hit a cop car, don’t go to jail — such is life for Amanda Bynes, who on Monday entered a no-contest plea to reckless driving in a case that had started with the former actress being accused of driving under the influence in April 2012.

In exchange for her plea to “wet reckless,” L.A. Now reported, Bynes will serve three years of probation and attend three months of alcohol-education classes. “Wet reckless” is reportedly the lowest charge prosecutors can seek in a DUI case. Her attorney entered the plea on her behalf.

In the 2012 incident, Bynes allegedly clipped an L.A. County Sheriff’s Department cruiser as she tried to pass it in West Hollywood around 3 a.m. That arrest was the beginning of a series of run-ins with the law on both coasts — most of the L.A. incidents vehicle-related. In New York she was arrested after allegedly tossing a bong out of the window of her high-rise apartment.

Then what had started as an apparent celebrity train wreck sadly and seriously culminated in July 2013 when the “She’s the Man” star was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold after allegedly setting a small fire in a Thousand Oaks neighborhood.

Since then, Bynes has emerged quietly from months of treatment, is living with her parents and is enrolled in classes at the Orange County campus of FIDM, the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Mom Lynn Bynes was given conservatorship of her daughter’s affairs last summer and earned praise from a judge this month.

In January, Amanda cut a deal in New York that will see the bong-related charges dropped if she attends twice-a-week counseling for six months.
