Nick Cannon unleashes flood of tweets praising Mariah, denying comment
Nick Cannon is talking — about how he hasn’t been talking, and how he won’t be talking again any time soon.
At least about his relationship with Mariah Carey.
The “America’s Got Talent” host vented Wednesday afternoon in a series of 18 tweets, acknowledging that he’s “personally” been absent from social media for a few months, praising Carey as a mother and declaring his love for her, and denying a recent quote that was attributed to him.
“For the record I NEVER have, nor will I make a statement regarding my marriage,” Cannon wrote. “So whatever your favorite gossip outlet is reporting has been created within their own imagination...”
Judging by a specific phrase he called out later, he was referring to a story from “The Insider” that was picked up widely, including by this blog, because it featured a quote that was seen as confirmation that late-August rumors of a Cannon-Carey split were based in reality. In that report, he was quoted as saying they’d “been living in separate houses for a few months.”
“ ‘Trouble in Paradise’ is the dumbest phrase I’ve ever heard!,” he tweeted Wednesday, echoing the first part of the quote that was attributed to him. “I would never say that.”
He characterized the media as “bottom feeders” during a “challenging time for me and my family” and blamed that for his need to break his silence when he preferred not to do so.
“Because my family & I haven’t been forthcoming with personal information,” Cannon said, “people are quick to paint negative pictures and spread rumours. For the record I NEVER have, nor will I make a statement regarding my marriage.”
The writer-producer, who in a profanity-laden March interview revealed a partial list of his famous sexual conquests, has been denying divorce rumors since May, telling Parade that they had “no merit.”
“What infuriates me most is to hear people slander @MariahCarey,” Cannon said Wednesday.
“I will forever be in debted to her for blessing me with our children...,” said the father of twins who turned 3 in April. “I will always love her unconditionally for this and so much more. @MariahCarey is an amazing Mother and I trust her wholeheartedly...”
Earlier this year, the couple put their Bel-Air estate on the market, and around the time the divorce rumors picked up there was a report that Carey had hired a security guard to keep Cannon away from other women while he was hosting pool parties in Las Vegas.
“If the media wants to portray me as the Bad guy that’s fine... But it is unfair to drag innocent people into the equation...,” Cannon tweeted. “Others have lives, families, and careers and for the media to slander them is down right evil and illegal... I apologize to anyone who’s gotten caught up in this unwarranted drama.”
He also had a comment specifically for those who might be talking out of school.
“BTW Shouts out to the so called ‘Sources’!,” he wrote. “I hope the check was worth it...”
