Two fan cultures collide in the new “Doctor Who” trailer that was dropped at Comic Con 2015.

The Comic-Con crowd was treated to a first-look glimpse of “Game of Thrones” actress Maisie Williams -- who plays Arya Stark in the George R.R. Martin epic fantasy in BBC’s brand-new trailer for “Doctor Who.”

The British sci-fi adventure series, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013, returned last fall for its ninth season since rebooting. The show is centered on a time-traveling alien known as the Doctor, currently portrayed by Peter Capaldi, and his traveling companions, the latest of whom is played by Jenna Coleman.

The actual role was not a surprise, and was announced months ago, but images of her in the role had not been released. Williams also isn’t the first “Thrones” actor to appear on “Doctor Who,” as more than 20 actors have appeared on both shows. Among them Mark Gatiss (who plays Tycho Nestoris in “Thrones”), Paul Kaye (Thoros of Myr), Ron Donachie (Rodrick Cassel), Liam Cunningham (Ser Davos Seaworth), Tobias Menzies (Edmure Tully), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Jojen Reed) and Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont).

David Bradley, who plays Walder Frey in “Thrones,” played a ruthless villain in an episode of “Doctor Who” and portrayed William Hartnell (the first actor to play the Doctor) in the 2013 docudrama “An Adventure in Space and Time.”
