Trump waits for no man: Late night gets in post-debate shots despite holiday
It may have been a holiday for some (Columbus Day or Native American Day, depending on your postal code), but late night wasted no time in rounding up jokes to address the events that unfolded in the presidential election over the weekend.
In wake of the second presidential debate Sunday and, more accurately, the aftermath of the leaked “Access Hollywood” footage that revealed Donald Trump’s lascivious conversation with Billy Bush, the problem with the late night shows was not lack of material but rather lack of material appropriate enough to publish on a family website.
Here are three of the best bits from Monday night’s late-night line-up. (With apologies to “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee” and “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah,” whose cable sensibilities mean that, although their contributions were stellar, we can’t share them with you here.)

“The Late Show With Stephen Colbert”
Despite being off for the holiday, Colbert filmed a monologue from home to address the debate and associated events from the long weekend.
While being a lovely look into Colbert’s study, watching him deliver a monologue sans audience was slightly bizarre. Colbert more than makes up for any awkwardness however, with an adorable (adoptable!) kitten and an acoustic guitar tune about debate hero Ken Bone.
“Jimmy Kimmel Live”
Short and sweet, Kimmel delivers a brief clip on what Trump and Hillary Clinton’s actual answers to the final question of the debate might have been.
“Late Night With Seth Meyers”
It was Meyers who went long, Monday night, breaking down the entirety of the “Access Hollywood” mess, while finding time to lambaste Trump, Billy Bush, Paul Ryan and locker room talk, in the recurring segment “A Closer Look.”
Meyers seems to be finding his groove on “Late Night” as the election heats up, giving himself over to the “Saturday Night Live” “Weekend Update” anchor America fell in love with.
