Peter Mayhew, the actor who played popular “Star Wars” character Chewbacca, has been hospitalized with pneumonia, according to his Twitter account.
On Monday, a person identifying herself as Mayhew’s wife, Angie, commented using her husband’s Reddit account that the 70-year-old actor was expected to be discharged from the hospital this week.
“Doctors are incredibly happy with his improvements,” she wrote.
Mayhew had to cancel a signing event over the weekend at a Texas comics shop due to illness.
The 7-foot-2 actor played Chewbacca in the original “Star Wars” trilogy and its prequels, and is to appear in the new installments.
The first installment of the new trilogy, “The Force Awakens,” is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. It is due out in December.
