Arcade Fire releases ‘We Exist’ video shot at Coachella music festival
Arcade Fire isn’t quite done with the sensation of its headlining Coachella music festival set, judging by footage from its new video for “We Exist.”
The band shot the clip for the single (off its most recent album “Reflektor”) on and offstage when headlining this year’s festival. It stars Andrew Garfield (of “The Social Network” and “Spider-Man” fame) in an eerie white and pink drag costume as he hits up a roadhouse bar and dances up a solitary storm.
The video continues as he makes his way to Coachella and winds up onstage during Arcade Fire’s headlining set. Garfield looks a little shocked to be there but dances with the band and finally earns the applause he’d been waiting for from the 90,000 strong crowd.
The video is an unexpected use of Coachella’s massive, adoring crowds as a metaphor for personal acceptance. A few fans might remember the moment in Arcade Fire’s set when an unknown figure in white strolled onstage.
Now we know why and have a lovely video to show for it.
