Frank Ocean says he forgives Chris Brown, won’t press charges

In an apparent reversal of widely reported comments made this week by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Frank Ocean said Saturday he won’t pursue criminal charges against Chris Brown, who’s alleged to have punched Ocean in a brawl at a West Hollywood recording studio.

“As a child I thought if someone jumped me it would result in me murdering or mutilating a man,” Ocean wrote in a brief post on his Tumblr page. “But as a man I am not a killer. I’m an artist and a modern person. I’ll choose sanity. No criminal charges. No civil lawsuit. Forgiveness, albeit difficult, is wisdom. Peace, albeit trite, is what I want in my short life. Peace.”

Ocean and Brown are thought to have fought last Sunday at Westlake Recording Studios, where witnesses said a dispute over a parking space grew into a six-man melee.

That evening, Ocean tweeted, “got jumped by chris and a couple guys....”

On Monday sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said Brown had been named as a suspect in a battery report and that Ocean was “desirous of prosecution.”

But Ocean’s post Saturday seems to indicate a change of heart.

The R&B singer is expected to perform Feb. 10 at the Grammy Awards, where he’s up for prizes including best new artist and album of the year. Brown is nominated as well.
