Vin Diesel may join ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ as voice of Groot
The Marvel character Groot is an alien that resembles a tree, so it seems perfectly fitting that a wooden actor like Vin Diesel could be cast as his voice in “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
The “Fast & Furious” veteran is reportedly in talks with Marvel Studios to lend his monotone to the latest superhero ensemble story, which combines live action with computer-animated characters like Groot.
Diesel even posted a picture of the character on his Facebook page.
Marvel, which has been talking to Diesel about several projects, declined to comment.
The film, written and directed by James Gunn (“Scooby-Doo”), is currently filming outside of London and is due out next August.
If Diesel were to be cast in the film, he would join an ensemble that includes Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Glenn Close and Benicio Del Toro.
Based on the Marvel comic series of the same name, the movie follows the antihero Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord (Pratt), and his squad of aliens, which includes a character named Rocket Raccoon, as they fight cosmic threats.
Footage shown at this summer’s Comic-Con International suggested that “Guardians of the Galaxy” will be humorous and snarky.
