MUSIC

Rock the Bells For this year’s showcase, the traveling hip-hop festival is taking a page out of the genre’s history books by focusing on a set of game-changing albums. Though still relatively downsized from lineups of the past, a who’s who of rap royalty, including Lauryn Hill, Nas, Cypress Hill, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, Mobb Deep, Raekwon and Ghostface, and the GZA, headline the bill. San Manuel Amphitheater, 2575 Glen Helen Parkway, San Bernardino. Noon. $50-$100. rockthebells.net.

Sade Following the platinum selling success of last year’s “Soldier of Love” — Sade’s first new album in a decade — the sultry-voiced British singer will perform recent hits, such as the Grammy-nominated “Babyfather,” plus classics from her just-released greatest hits compilation, “The Ultimate Collection.” Neo-soul heavy hitter John Legend will open. Staples Center, 1111 S. Figueroa St., L.A. 8 p.m. Sat.-Sun. $49.50-$179.50. (213) 742-7340. https://www.staplescenter.com.

MOVIES

‘Red State’ Kevin Smith’s self-distributed new film is a departure; it’s his first foray into the horror genre, even as there remain vestiges of his trademark snappy banter and offbeat humor. The film, which stars Michael Parks, Melissa Leo and John Goodman, will screen for one week and Smith will attend each showing, with an audience Q&A to follow. New Beverly Cinema, 7165 W. Beverly Blvd., L.A. 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Sat.-next Thu. $20 (some shows sold out). (323) 938-4038. https://www.coopersdell.com.

‘Rhino Resurrected’ Rhino Records in Westwood was a church for wax fanatics from the time it opened in 1973 until its sad shutter in 2005. During that time it expanded to become a label that catered to the offbeat tastes of audiophiles, much like its flagship record shop. A new documentary will celebrate its world premiere at the Cinefamily, 611 N. Fairfax Ave., L.A. 2:30 p.m. $12. (323) 655-2510; https://www.cinefamily.org.
