ABC cancels ‘Last Resort’ and ‘666 Park Avenue’

Maybe the rescue crew got lost? ABC won’t be moving forward with freshman series “Last Resort” and “666 Park Avenue.”

Military drama “Last Resort,” from “The Shield’s” Shawn Ryan, got off to a modest start in its Thursday at 8 p.m. slot — a time period the network has struggled to find footing in (exhibit A: last season’s “Charlie’s Angels”). The drama, starring Andre Braugher and Scott Speedman, has averaged just over 7 million total viewers and a 1.7 rating in the advertiser-coveted demographic of viewers ages 18 to 49 during its short run, with Thursday’s episode being its lowest-rated airing, with 5.8 million viewers.

Meanwhile, “666 Park Avenue” hasn’t faired well in its 10 p.m. Sunday slot. The thriller, which features ABC fixtures Terry O’Quinn and Vanessa Williams, averaged about 5 million viewers and a 1.6 rating among the key 18-49 demo.

Both series will air the remaining episodes of their 13-episode order in their usual time slots. With the midseason schedule for the network not yet announced, it’s unclear what will air in their places afterward.

The news comes after the network’s recent announcements that fellow newbies “Nashville” and “The Neighbors” were given full-season orders.
