First annual L.A. Fried Chicken Fest

Wouldn’t it be great if there were an entire food festival devoted to fried chicken? A place where you could indulge freely in golden brown, crispy pieces of chicken? That’s the idea behind the first annual Los Angeles Fried Chicken Fest, coming Sunday, Aug. 26, in Beverly Hills.

The festival is the brainchild of Joshua Lurie of the website Food GPS and marketer Helen Springut. The two brought together nine Los Angeles chefs to prepare their versions of the classic comfort food for the festival. The participating chefs include:

• Josef Centeno of Baco Mercat and Bar Ama
• David LeFevre of M.B. Post
• Mary Sue Milliken of Border Grill
• Matt Molina of Mozza
• Bryant Ng of the Spice Table
• Jazz Singsanong of Jitlada
• Marcel Vigneron and Haru Kishi of the Coop
• Ricardo Zarate of Picca and Mo-Chica

The festival will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. at “The Coop” (the Gonpachi space on La Cienega). Tickets will cost $45 per person if purchased by Aug. 19, and $55 per person after. Each ticket gets you a piece of fried chicken and a side dish from each chef.

If you’re eating your way through the fest and find yourself in need of some libations, Josh Goldman of Mess Hall is providing bottomless cocktail punches featuring Knob Creek (bourbon, rye and single barrel) and El Tesoro tequila. There will also be endless craft beer from Firestone Walker Brewing Co. DJ Stepdad will be on hand supplying the tunes.

You can purchase tickets exclusively at www.lafriedchickenfest.com. Ten percent of the ticket proceeds will go to benefit Share Our Strength, a charity that works to end childhood hunger in America by 2015.
