Elizabeth Banks to help launch BabyGap Peter Rabbit Collection
Actress Elizabeth Banks, notable last year in “The Hunger Games,” “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” and “People Like Us,” is on tap to help celebrate the launch of the limited-edition BabyGap Peter Rabbit Collection at The Grove on Saturday. Banks is slated to do a reading of “The Further Tale of Peter Rabbit,” Emma Thompson’s sequel to the Beatrix Potter classic.
The event is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Gap at The Grove, 189 The Grove Drive, Los Angeles. Guests are invited to bring a book to donate to the local Boys & Girls Clubs.
The BabyGap Peter Rabbit Collection of accessories and clothes for newborn to 24 months, ranging in price from $6.99 to $55, will be widely available beginning Jan. 14.

The Paper Bag Princess plans to host a cocktail party and book signing for the new tome “Affordable Couture” ( Vivays Publishing) by Jemi Armstrong and Linda Arroz from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday. All the Rage talked with the authors awhile back about the book, a guide to the world of high-end designer fashion and how to find it and vintage pieces at affordable prices.
The Paper Bag Princess, known for its vintage couture and contemporary collectibles by Elizabeth Mason Couture, is featured in the book. The boutique is at 8818 W. Olympic Blvd., Beverly Hills.
SEW L.A., a sewing classroom and fabric shop located at 3153 Glendale Blvd., is welcoming blogger and lifestyle personality Gretchen Hirsch for a book party and retro picnic from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Hirsh is author of the new book “Gertie’s New Book for Better Sewing” (Abrams|STC Craft, September 2012). The event includes a vintage-themed picnic, Hollywood makeup artists doing retro makeup for guests, giveaways and a book-signing with Hirsch. The event is free and open to the public.
Collaborations
Los Angeles artist Alexandra Grant has teamed with fashion label Clover Canyon on a collection of clothing inspired by Grant’s “Century of the Self” body of work. The designs that resulted include colorful Ts, dresses, skirts, pants, jackets and totes, some inscribed with phrases such as “I was born to love, and not to hate” and “Love Myself.” Prices range from about $228 for a top to $495 for a maxi dress, and 20% of the proceeds from sales are earmarked to benefit LA>
