Kate Bosworth, fiancé collaborate on Topshop holiday film

Topshop’s first Los Angeles store isn’t opening at the Grove until Feb. 14, but the U.K.-based fast-fashion retailer is already forging ties with Hollywood. Today, Topshop releases “Winter Wonderland,” its first holiday film starring the ever-fashionable Kate Bosworth and directed by her fiancé, Michael Polish. And we have the exclusive scoop from Bosworth herself.

Inspired by the famous piano scene with Michelle Pfeiffer in “The Fabulous Baker Boys,” the two-minute Topshop film was shot in London at Café de Paris and features Bosworth singing “Winter Wonderland” and looking smokin’ hot in a sparkly Bordeaux, long-sleeved cocktail dress and matching pumps that she designed in collaboration with the Topshop design team. (The dress and shoes will be available as a special made-to-order on Topshop.com in conjunction with the new Topshop store opening in L.A.)

“We wanted to create something cinematic. To marry fashion and cinema,” Bosworth explained in an email to All the Rage. “This combination lead us to the movie ‘The Fabulous Baker Boys.’ It wasn’t that we wanted to recreate the movie, but play on our perception, particularly the scene where Michelle Pfeiffer sings ‘Makin’ Whoopee.’’’

Bosworth, 29, has been a fan of Topshop since she was in her early 20s and first visited the famed Oxford Circus flagship, which she describes as “magical” and “still a must-stop every visit to London.”

“There’s something for every dress sense, on trend, and at a great price point,” said Bosworth, who is consistently on best-dressed lists and certainly knows her fashion stuff. She launched the JewelMint line of accessories with stylist Cher Coulter this year, is the face of the SK-II skin-care brand and has modeled for Calvin Klein Jeans and Coach. The last item Bosworth bought from Topshop was “almost everything in JW Anderson’s amazing collaboration collection.” A spokesman from Topshop said he hopes the relationship with the actress will continue and result in future collaborations.

Bosworth and Polish have been a couple since working on the film “Big Sur” together last year and announced their engagement in September. For Bosworth, the Topshop project “was particularly intimate because we are paying homage to a film that we both really love. We also worked on composing the song together.”

Polish is best known for the films “Twin Falls Idaho” (1999) and “The Astronaut Farmer” (2006). Bosworth, who first garnered attention in “Blue Crush” (2002), just wrapped the film “Homefront” in New Orleans with Jason Statham, James Franco and Winona Ryder.

Topshop’s “Winter Wonderland” film will be on social media, at Topshop.com, on digital billboards, in stores and movie theaters globally. The song will also be available for download on iTunes.
