Throughout the summer the Guittard Chocolate Co. will host a guest chef series for bakers across Los Angeles. The classes are to be led by Guittard pastry chef Donald Wressell and feature hands-on workshops with chefs, chocolatiers and bakers so attendees can learn new skills, enhance techniques and expand their knowledge of chocolate. The guest chefs include Craig Ponsford, Jin Caldwell, Sherry Yard and Ewald Notter. The first class is set for July 6 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Prices vary based on the class. LA Weekly is hosting a pancake breakfast on Aug. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Evan Kleiman, host of KCRW’s “Good Food” show, is heading up the event which will be held at the Park Plaza Hotel. More than 40 Los Angeles breakfast and brunch destinations are expected to participate. Past participants have included Brite Spot, Good Girl Dinette, Gottsui, Nickel Diner, BLD Restaurant, Chego, Fred 62, Handsome Coffee Roasters, LAMILL Coffee, Beachwood Cafe, Cafecito Organico, Cooks County, Kobawoo House, Redbird, Dupar’s, Canelé, Semi Sweet Bakery, the Village Bakery & Cafe, Gjelina Take Away, Square One, Market, Le Comptoir and Loteria Grill. Wally’s 9th Central Coast Wine and Food Celebration benefiting the Michael Bonaccorsi Endowment Fund at the Allan Hancock College Department of Viticulture and Enology is returning. It’s scheduled to be held Sunday, July 27, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. under the “Big Top” adjacent to the store. The tasting will include over 50 wineries from California’s Central Coast, along with signature dishes from chefs and restaurants of the region. Guests can also participate in a silent auction with rare wines and gift baskets up for grabs. General admission to the festival is $99 per person in advance and $125 at the door plus tax. Wally’s also offers a VIP early entry from noon to 1 p.m., with guests purchasing an advance premium ticket for $149 gaining entrance for early tastings and an opportunity to meet winemakers and chefs.
