Pasadena news: Magnolia House, Waffles de Liege open; Superba Snacks coming soon
Magnolia House is now open in the former Magnolia bar space on South Lake Avenue in Pasadena. John and Chris Bicos of Bicos Hospitality (The Original Tops and Gus’s BBQ) have transformed the space into a restaurant and cocktail lounge with cocktails and wine by Evan Zimmerman. Drinks include The Lumberjack’s Breakfast with Blended Islay Scotch, Bonded Applejack, cardamom, maple syrup, lemon juice and egg white, and The Italian Fling with Nicaraguan rum, sweet vermouth, Campari, aromatic bitters. To accompany the drinks, chef Kyu Yi has a small plates menu with roasted beets and burrata, sashimi, shrimp toast, loukoumades Greek doughnuts and more. The space, designed by Ralph Gentile Architects, features a brick entrance, black-and-white chevron bar and a large olive tree in the bar area. Magnolia House is open Monday to Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m., Thursday to Saturday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 12 a.m. 492 S. Waffles de Liege, the food truck serving its signature Belgian waffles has opened a brick and mortar store in Old Town Pasadena. The waffles, made from a rich, yeast-laden dough and pieces of pearl sugar, are served plain or with your choice of toppings — including fresh fruit, Speculoos spread and ice cream. The store is also serving Heart Roasters coffee, and ice cream. Waffles de Liege is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 21 E. An outlet of Venice’s Superba Food + Bread, called Superba Snacks + Coffee, will open in February on Arroyo Parkway in Pasadena. The restaurant will serve breads, pastries and sandwiches from Superba Food + Bread and Verve Coffee Roasters coffee. The 1,590-square-foot space will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 712 S.
