‘Temple of Doom’ writers Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz end quest for a buyer in Brentwood
The Brentwood home of screenwriting duo Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz, who penned the screenplays for films including “American Graffiti” and “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” has sold for $13 million.
Set on nearly 1.5 acres of grounds, the Spanish-style estate includes a swimming pool and a tennis court.
The 1939 house, designed by architect Cliff May in conjunction with architect Wallace Frost, enters to a foyer full of Spanish tile and beamed ceilings. A flurry of French doors creates indoor-outdoor living spaces in the 5,200-square-foot interior.
An oversized kitchen and a living room with built-ins fill out the first floor. The second story, accessed by a winding staircase, holds the master suite. In all, there are four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms.
The home spent nearly a year on the market, records show. It was most recently listed for $14.75 million.
Cynthia Ambuehl of the Agency was the listing agent. David Offer of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices represented the buyer.
Huyck and Katz received an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay for 1973’s “American Graffiti.” The couple’s film credits also include “Lucky Lady” (1975) and “Howard the Duck” (1983).
