Hollywood bigwig Mike Medavoy makes a move in Beverly Crest, and other top sales

Despite ending the year with a slew of eight-figure sales, the high-end market failed to see a sale of $10 million or more through the first two weeks of January. Among the top sales to start the year were four transactions of $9 million or more, including one involving the Westside home of one of Hollywood’s biggest producers.

Here’s a larger look:

$9.948 million — Beverly Crest

Hollywood filmmaker Mike Medavoy and his wife, Irene, sold their home on Oak Pass Road to a blind trust for about $5 million less than the original asking price of $14.995 million.

Sitting on 1.85 acres in a gated enclave, the East Coast-inspired estate includes a detached guesthouse, an outdoor pavilion and a swimming pool. There are two garages and a large motor court that can accommodate about a dozen cars.

The main house has fireplaces in the dining and family rooms, library and master bedroom. A media room, seven bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms also lie within more than 8,800 square feet of living space.

Medavoy, 75, is the chairman and chief executive at Phoenix Pictures. His scores of credits include seven films that won Academy Awards for best picture, including “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Rocky” and “Annie Hall.”

Jade Mills and Joyce Rey of Coldwell Banker were the listing agents. Mark Alba of Alba Realty represented the buyer.

$9.8 million — Pacific Palisades

In the 900 block of Amalfi Drive, an estate owned for decades by the family of late attorney and philanthropist Ernest M. Lever sold to a blind trust for $195,000 less than the asking price of $9.995 million.

Sitting on about an acre, with city and mountain views, the estate centers on an English Country-style home built in 1937. The 6,025 square feet of living space includes scaled formal rooms, a wood-paneled den, a sunroom, seven bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms.

Sally Forster Jones of John Aaroe Group was the listing agent. David Offer of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices represented the buyer.

$9.3 million — Manhattan Beach

A 1909 beach house sitting on the Strand in Manhattan Beach sold to a Delaware-based LLC for $2.2 million less than the asking price of $11.5 million.

A copy of the grant deed obtained by The Times shows the taxes will be mailed to the Vancouver address of Kevin Carpenter. Carpenter is an executive with Onni Group, a Vancouver-based real estate development firm.

The shingled two-story includes three bedrooms and 2.25 bathrooms in nearly 1,650 square feet of living space. Unobstructed views take in the ocean and beachfront.

Jack Gillespie and Barry Host of Vista Sotheby’s Realty were the listing agents. Bob Sievers of RE/MAX Estate Properties repped the buyer.

$9.15 million — Hollywood Hills West

A newly built, modern-style home on Rising Glen Road changed hands for about $800,000 less than the asking price of $9.949 million.

The multilevel house sits at the end of a private road and is fronted by a 10-car motor court.

Among details of note are pocketing walls of glass, a theater room with a bar and a rooftop garden. The 2,000-square-foot master suite occupies the entire second floor and has a separate den and lounge. A total of four bedrooms and seven bedrooms lie within 6,051 square feet of interiors.

Outdoors, wood decking surrounds an infinity-edge swimming pool with a raised spa. Elsewhere are an outdoor kitchen and a boccie ball court.
