To the editor: Elon Musk’s proposal for a tunnel alongside the 405 through the Sepulveda Pass is a wonderful-sounding idea that just may have some problems. (“Elon Musk’s tunneling company wants to dig through L.A.,” Nov. 21)

The article quotes Musk’s estimate of “a year or so” for completion and then points out that in two months, his company has dug a tunnel of about 500 feet. At that rate, we’re looking and many years until completion.

But what about parking places for the commuters who will use this tunnel, or the traffic congestion if we simply drive our cars onto tunnel carriers?

Musk certainly comes up with fantastic ideas and should be complimented for his vision. Execution of those ideas, however, is another issue, a problem faced by some of the other Musk brainstorms.

To the editor: I wish Musk, who was inspired to dig a tunnel on the Westside because of his long commute between Hawthorne and his home in Bel-Air, would consider living in Pasadena and working in Alhambra.
