To the editor: The shameless spectacle that took place on the White House steps as Republican lawmakers schmoozed with President Trump while gloating about the passing of the awful tax bill was both disgusting and nauseating. (“Trump notches first big legislative win with tax cut bill — but it’s far from his populist promises,” Dec. 20)

Praising Trump as possibly the finest president in U.S. history fooled no one other than Trump himself. However, the Republicans were simply mimicking Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proven strategy for handling, leading and motivating Trump.

By stroking the president’s huge ego with outrageous claims, his fawners are rewarded with complete cooperation. Cooperation on what? Possibly firing special counsel Robert S. Mueller III over the holidays?
