Austin Dillon celebrates his Daytona 500 victory by getting ‘champ’ tattooed on his rear end

Austin Dillon isn’t likely to forget winning his first Daytona 500. But just in case, the 27-year-old driver now has a permanent reminder that will always be with him.

In the late-night/early-morning hours following his thrilling victory at Sunday’s 60th running of the Great American Race, Dillon and some of his crew members decided to commemorate the occasion by getting tattoos.

Dillon described his to reporters later on Monday — the Daytona 500 logo with the word “champ” underneath — but would not show it to them. That’s because it’s on his rear end.

“You’ll never be able to see it,” Dillon said during the winner’s news conference at Daytona International Speedway. “It’s pretty cool looking today. [My wife] Whitney is probably the only one that is going to see it for a while.”

Team owner Richard Childress, who is also Dillon’s grandfather, didn’t get one but said he might have had he been with the group at the time. Crew chief Justin Alexander didn’t get one either but promised to get a tattoo on his face if the team wins a championship.

And while Dillon seems pretty psyched about his new ink, he also admits the experience has been somewhat of a painful one.

“It hurt,” Dillon said. “It feels OK this morning, but one of my boys smacked me on the butt when I came over here, and I was like, ‘Easy, guys.’”
