215 Freeway in Perris closed after bridge collapses
The 215 Freeway was closed in both directions in Perris on Tuesday after a big rig on the northbound lanes hit an under-construction bridge and overturned near the Perris Boulevard exit, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The bridge collapsed about 10 a.m. and officials from the California Department of Transportation said the north side of the freeway could be closed for up to 12 hours.
The southbound lanes of the 215 freeway in Perris were reopened later Tuesday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.
The big rig overturned and spilled sand onto the freeway. No Caltrans workers were injured, according to CHP logs.
