A couple stole 500 gallons of fuel from a gas station by pumping it into a horse trailer with a false door and interior tank system, Riverside police said.

According to a witness account, the man and woman pulled a horse trailer attached to a Ford truck into the Weis Fuel station in the 9400 block of Magnolia Avenue at 4:45 a.m. on July 22 and stopped over a tank filling hole, Riverside police said Thursday.

The horse trailer was apparently equipped with a false door and interior pumping system, which police said was used to extract 500 gallons of gasoline from the station’s underground tank.

The horse trailer reportedly had an “alien” sticker on the rear.
