Decomposing body found by surfer off Venice Beach; investigation launched
Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man whose body was found Tuesday morning in the waters off Venice Beach, officials said.
A surfer reported what appeared to a dead body in the water near 18th Avenue in Venice, said Lidia Barillas, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Lifeguard Division.
Lifeguards entered the water and confirmed it was the body of a man in his 20s, she said.
A Baywatch Rescue boat responded and the body was removed from the water.
The body was taken away by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and homicide detectives.
The body appeared to be decomposing, Barillas said.
