70-year-old man found dead at Corona del Mar; drowning likely
Newport Beach police are investigating whether a 70-year-old man who was found in the surf at Corona del Mar State Beach early Tuesday is a drowning victim.
Officers called to the scene about 9 a.m. pulled the body from the water, according to Lt. Jeff Brouwer.
Foul play is not suspected, according to Lt. Damon Psaros, who said the death is being investigated as a drowning.
“At this point there’s nothing suspicious,” he said.
Detectives are working to confirm the man’s identity, Brouwer said.
No other information was immediately available.
