A U.S. Border Patrol agent based in Arizona has been charged with multiple felonies for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl in Riverside County, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said Tuesday.

Alejandro Dominguez, who joined the agency in July, has since resigned from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency, officials said. Dominguez, 34, was arrested Monday in Tucson, Ariz., on suspicion of sexual exploitation of a minor, possession of child pornography and lewd acts with a minor.

Dominguez could not be reached for comment.

The now-14-year-old girl, who lives in Jurupa Valley, told deputies she first met Dominguez at a family birthday party two years ago. They allegedly began communicating on Facebook and the conversations soon became of a sexual nature with both exchanging nude pictures of themselves, according to Riverside County Superior Court documents.

Dominguez drove to the girl’s home twice in March for sexual encounters, according to allegations in court documents.

The girl’s mother first reported the alleged sexual relationship Aug. 18, about a month after Dominguez had begun work as a Border Patrol agent, according to records.

Bail was set at $1 million for Dominguez, who has 15 years of military experience and is married, according to court documents. It was unclear whether he was able to post bail.
