The first red carpet premiere for U.S. Geological Survey seismologist Lucy Jones was, fittingly enough, the Tuesday showing of “San Andreas,” a thriller in which a massive earthquake strikes California.

Jones, who had a yearlong stint as seismic safety adviser to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, has become a prominent figure for not only sounding the alarm on the city's lack of earthquake readiness but also for making seismology accessible to the public, particularly through her Twitter feed.

So as the screen showed the tremors leveling skyscrapers and triggering a tsunami, Jones live-tweeted her commentary:
