Man critically injured after a woman jumping from a hotel lands on him
A man was critically injured Friday after he was struck by a woman who jumped from the 11th floor of a hotel in Westchester and killed herself, police said.
The man was walking outside the Crowne Plaza Los Angeles International Airport hotel in the 5900 block of West Century Boulevard about 8:20 a.m., when the woman landed on him, said Officer Liliana Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The woman died upon impact.
Police were monitoring the man’s condition.
This isn’t the first time a bystander has been hurt by a person jumping.
In December 2001, a man who allegedly had killed his wife jumped from the Century Freeway connector and landed on the roof of a car, killing the driver.
Osmin Ernesto Bonilla, 28, shot himself and plunged 80 feet below onto a Toyota Camry traveling south on the Harbor Freeway.
Bonilla’s body crashed through the roof of the car, which continued traveling for about half a mile. The driver, Sandra Dwyer, 32, died at a nearby hospital and her passenger suffered injuries.
