Fatal Metrolink accident causes major delays along Perris Valley line
A Metrolink train struck and killed a man in Pico Rivera early Wednesday morning, causing major delays along Metrolink’s 91/Perris Valley line headed toward Riverside.
Metrolink tweeted that its Line 700 had struck a person on the tracks. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority provided six buses to take passengers to Los Angeles Union Station, according to another tweet.
The incident occurred between the cities of Commerce and Norwalk shortly after 6 a.m. in a non-pedestrian area with 60 passengers aboard the train.
Delays extended to the Orange County line and, to a lesser degree, the Inland Empire Orange County line.

Railway service did not resume until about 8:30 a.m., according to a Scott Johnson, a Metrolink spokesperson. Metrolink opened one track at the incident scene with restricted speeds for northbound and southbound trains.
Homicide investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Los Angeles County medical examiner were on the scene Wednesday morning. The man who was killed was in his 30s, according to authorities.
Public safety has long been a matter of concern to transportation authorities. Last month, Metro launched a public relations campaign that featured animated videos of accident scenarios.
