Sacramento Kaiser hospital treating patient possibly exposed to Ebola
A person who may have been exposed to the Ebola virus is being treated at a Sacramento-area hospital, authorities said Tuesday.
The unidentified patient is at Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center in a specially equipped negative pressure room, according to a statement from Dr. Stephen Parodi, infectious diseases specialist at the hospital.
Kaiser is working in conjunction with the Sacramento County Division of Public Health concerning the patient.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta will be testing blood samples from the patient, according to the release.
All precautionary steps are being taken for the safety of staff and other patients, the hospital said.
It is unclear when the patient arrived at the facility or when the possible exposure to the virus occurred. No specific information about the patient, including name or gender, has been released.
