Second dry ice bomb explodes at LAX; two others found, police say
A dry ice bomb exploded at Los Angeles International Airport on Monday night, the second one to detonate there in little more than 24 hours, police said.
The explosion was reported about 8:30 p.m. in the Bradley Terminal, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Two other similar devices that did not explode were found in the area, an LAPD source told The Times.
No injuries were immediately reported. Police swarmed the scene and were launching an investigation.
“Apparently there is no nexus to terrorism right now,” Det. Gus Villanueva said.
He said detectives from the LAPD’s Criminal Conspiracy Section were responding to the scene.
Television news footage showed officers in an area between planes.
An explosion on Sunday was reported about 7 p.m. in a restroom at Terminal 2, which is home to several international and domestic airlines.
Officials said an airport employee heard an explosion in a men’s room and went to investigate.
The worker discovered a 20-ounce plastic bottle that had contained the dry ice. The blast did no damage, and no injuries were reported. The FBI was investigating.
