LAPD investigates fatal overnight shooting in South L.A.
Investigators are trying to piece together more information about an overnight shooting in South Los Angeles that left a man dead.
Few details were available about the shooting, which was reported about 2:40 a.m. in the 5000 block of South Western Avenue, said Los Angeles police Officer Sally Madera. The officers who responded to the scene found a man who had been shot multiple times.
Police had no suspect description and did not know if the shooting was gang-related, Madera said.
The shooting occurred in the Vermont Square neighborhood, one of the deadliest in L.A. County over the last 12 months, according to The Times’ Homicide Report. Before Sunday’s shooting, the neighborhood saw 12 homicides in 12 months. Eleven of those homicides were caused by gunfire.
