Three children found dead in home by Torrance; mother detained
Authorities are focusing on the mental health of Carol Coronado, who is expected to be charged with murder in the death of her three young girls.
Three children were found dead in a home in the Torrance area Tuesday evening, and their mother was being questioned by homicide investigators, authorities said.
When deputies arrived at the home, “they were met by family members who told the deputies that a mother had killed her children,” Sheriff’s Department officials said in a statement Tuesday night.
The victims ranged in age from 2 months old to 3 years old, the department said.
The incident was reported about 5:20 p.m. in the 1000 block of West 223rd Street in an unincorporated area near Torrance, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
The department sent out a news release shortly after the incident reported, saying only that homicide detectives were responding to a death investigation.
No other details were immediately available.
Since January 2007, at least 24 homicides have been reported within a mile of Tuesday’s crime scene, according to The Times Homicide Report database.
