Detectives were in South Los Angeles Monday night investigating a shooting that left a woman dead.

The incident was reported in the 5400 block of Brynhurst Avenue in Hyde Park, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Detectives from the 77th Street Division were trying to determine whether the slaying was a homicide or an accidental shooting, Officer Sara Faden said.

“It looks to have started as a domestic-related incident,” Faden said.

The victim was in her 30s. One person was detained and being questioned by detectives. No other details were immediately available.

Since January 2007, at least 57 homicides have been reported within a mile of Monday’s shooting scene, according to The Times Homicide Report database.
