Ex-Riverside Officer Won’t Fight 65 Counts in Boys’ Abuse

Former Riverside police officer Adam James Brown pleaded no contest Friday to 65 criminal charges stemming from alleged sex acts with four Riverside County boys under the age of 14.

Brown, 33, a Riverside officer for six years, faces possible life in prison when he is sentenced in Riverside County Superior Court on Feb. 17, said prosecutor Allison Nelson.

Between 1998 and 2002, when he was fired, Brown committed oral copulation, sodomy and other lewd acts on the boys, using force on more than 30 occasions, Nelson said. Riverside Police Chief Russ Leach has said that detectives found photographs and videotape showing him engaged in some of the acts.

Brown’s attorney, Darryl Exum, was not available for comment.

The Riverside investigation followed Brown’s February 2004 arrest for being involved in an Internet pornography ring. A substitute teacher and Ramona High School resource officer before becoming a policeman, he was sentenced to more than 30 years after pleading guilty to crossing state lines to have sex with a child under 12 and producing child pornography.
