Dangling tree trimmer rescued
A tree trimmer dangled for half an hour from a frond of a tall palm tree Saturday before he was rescued by firefighters, officials said.
Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Darryl Jacobs said the fronds have a tendency to slip between a trimmer’s body and the belt used for support, leaving the worker unable to get free. “It’s not unusual at all,” he said.
Jacobs said the Fire Department received a call about 10:30 a.m. reporting the man stuck in a tree near 200 W. Rosecrest Ave. It took rescuers 40 minutes to bring him down.
He suffered scrapes but was conscious, and was transported to UCI Medical Center as a precaution, Jacobs said.
