Man swept away by waves in Rancho Palos Verdes
One of three men fishing on rocks in Rancho Palos Verdes was swept away by rough seas Sunday evening, authorities said.
Los Angeles County Fire Department boats and the U.S. Coast Guard searched the waters into the night but had not found the man.
Officials said they would continue searching into this morning.
Because conditions were so dangerous, divers were not able to join in the search.
The search began at the end of Hawthorne Boulevard about 7 p.m., said John Welman of the Fire Department.
Meanwhile, the piers at Seal Beach and Manhattan Beach were closed because of high surf and 15-foot waves.
The high waves prompted the National Weather Service to issue a high surf advisory, and beachgoers were warned to avoid going into the water through Tuesday because of dangerous rip currents, said Lt. j.g. Andrew Munoz of the Coast Guard.
