‘Strippergate’ Acquittal Will Be Appealed
Federal prosecutors will appeal a judge’s acquittal of former City Councilman Michael Zucchet after he was convicted of accepting illegal contributions from a strip club owner in exchange for political favors.
Prosecutors filed notice with the court this week of their intention to appeal U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Miller’s decision to the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Miller threw out guilty verdicts against Zucchet last month, acquitting him of seven corruption counts and granting him a new trial on the remaining two counts.
The move must first be approved by the U.S. solicitor general’s office, which represents the United States before the U.S. Supreme Court.
