Gay marriage: the key to happiness?

Discuss Gregory Rodriguez's column.

Comments will close after two days.

1. Rodriguez commits the fallacy of composition by proposing that we combine the 'puzzling' key to happiness in Latin America, belief in God, with the key to happiness in countries like Denmark, tolerance of gays. My first question for those who conducted the study would have been, "How do you define happiness?" I don't even know what makes ME happy. But I do know what brings me joy or peace or contentment. Just some thoughts from reading his column. I'm saving it for my logic class I teach in the fall. It'll be good practice for the students to try to identify the author's premises, assumptions and conclusion.

3. Interesting and thought-provoking though Mr Rodriguez's observations are, this column is but useless trivia to anyone wishing to follow up the data from the study. Why did he not publish a link to the study itself, or at least identify those who conducted the research? In the absence of such information, it is all just hearsay, or "anecdotal evidence" as skeptical scientists would say.

5. Who cares? Trying to reason with mentally deranged, self-absorbed, feels-good-do-it sodomites is like talking to a pile of boulders. The evidence supports that AIDS or a combo of other lethal STD’s is the [very] final arbiter of all these arguments and your degenerate lifestyle! So, party on sod’s, karma, consequence, etc. doesn’t care one crap about the litany of your insane justifications. The testament of your self-anointed proclamations of happiness usually wraps up in a lingering, wasting, lonely and painful death.

7. Actually, a more telling "canary in the coalmine" can be identified: us nonbelievers. While even gays have enjoyed a considerable upswing of public tolerance in the USA, resulting in avowed homosexuals in Congress, to not bend the knee to some "Lord" in America gets one uninvited to the banquet. Us nonbelievers are the last niggers in America, and there are bound to be 15 or so European countries where we could go farther than here.

10. @ Ed. "Actually, gay marriages last less than 18 mos. and have 8 affairs along the way. Is that happiness?" Hmm. That's an interesting factoid you threw out there. Got anything to back it up or was that just a lot of hot air? "Protection for gays is not an effective use of our government tax dollars." No, protection for ALL PEOPLE is an effective use our tax dollars and that includes protecting you and your right to bigotry.
