NATIONAL BRIEFING
Times Wire Reports
An imam pleaded not guilty to charges that he lied to FBI agents investigating an alleged bomb plot against New York City by a suspected Al Qaeda associate.
“I have nothing to hide,” Ahmad Wais Afzali told reporters outside federal court in Brooklyn.
Afzali, 37, was arrested in September and accused of lying to agents working to thwart what they say was a plot by Najibullah Zazi, a Colorado airport van driver. Zazi has pleaded not guilty to conspiring to use weapons of mass destruction. Afzali is free on bail.
