Seahawks step up in league
The Ocean View High girls’ soccer team collected an important victory Tuesday and took a step closer to winning a championship.
In a key Golden West League game between rivals and the top two teams in the league standings, Ocean View got past visiting Westminster, 2-1. Madison White scored and also got the assist on the game-winning goal scored in the second half by Iran Enriquez. Emma Malsy had 11 saves today.
Ocean View Coach Jose Sanchez said Enriquez was his team’s “player of the game.”
The Seahawks, ranked seventh in CIF Southern Section Division 5, overcame a 1-0 deficit to run its league-leading record to 6-0-1 and overall mark to 11-2-5. They own a five-point lead on second-place Westminster with three league games remaining.
“That goal was a wake-up call for us,” Sanchez said of Westminster’s early, 1-0 lead. “We never looked back after that. The girls had a great work ethic running after every single ball. The second half was more of the same, we just keep pressuring. Our finishing was off, but the girls kept fighting, until Iran [Enriquez] got a pass from Madison [White] and scored a great goal.”
The Seahawks previously blanked visiting Santa Ana Jan. 28, 2-0. Daniela Gonzalez and Hannah Messina scored, Lauren Reynolds had an assist, Malsy had two saves, and their “player of the game” was Kristina Cooley, Sanchez said.

Mikayla Edwards scored twice and had an assist, Rachel Flory and Amy Feinstein both scored once, and Zoe Clevely had five saves. Edwards scored the winning goal which came on an unassisted corner kick that bent into the near post.
