Football: Mike Walsh is stepping down at San Pedro after 25 years as coach
The Ctiy Section is losing another football coaching icon.
Mike Walsh, the head coach at San Pedro for 25 years, is leaving the position. The school is already advertising for a new coach.
“It’s kind of shocking,” Athletic Director Bob Schatz told the Daily Breeze. “I don’t know how in the world we’re ever going to replace him.”
Walsh built successful teams known for their toughness, physicality and ability to play well in big Marine League games. He won five City Section championships and had a record of 227-74-2.
Even when the Pirates didn’t have a top team, they still found a way to compete against the best.
